Joshua P. James’s sound is country and rock and pop and folk all dancing together (trying not to step on each other's toes). It’s country but in the late 1950s version of the tag. It's bluesy but in the way Jimmie Rodgers played the blues. It can be poppy but in a bare bones fashion. All these influences are filtered through the ethos of a troubadour and brought to light in a style that is a clearly modern version of the singer/songwriter. Layered with lyrical hooks both heartfelt and sardonic, he writes straightforward, catchy songs and performs them with earnest conviction. |
